DMCC company suffix update 2026: DMCC to FZCO

The DMCC suffix change is free, takes minutes on the Member Portal, and has a deadline of 31 December 2026. The downstream paperwork is what actually needs planning.

Deadline 31 December 2026Free via Member PortalNo change to legal statusUpdated 26 July 2026

DMCC member companies incorporated before 2 January 2025 must replace the DMCC suffix in their legal name with FZCO. The deadline was extended to 31 December 2026. The update itself is free, done through the Member Portal, and needs no supporting documents — but the downstream paperwork it triggers is what catches people.

What the DMCC suffix change actually alters

Only the suffix. "Example Trading DMCC" becomes "Example Trading FZCO".

Your legal status, your licence number, your incorporation date, your shareholding and your operations are all unaffected. The free zone is still called DMCC. This is a naming convention alignment, not a restructuring.

Who has to do it, and by when

  • Incorporated before 2 January 2025 — you must update by 31 December 2026
  • Incorporated on or after 2 January 2025 — you were registered as FZCO automatically; nothing to do
The deadline was originally 30 June 2026 and has been extended to 31 December 2026. Treat the extension as breathing room for the downstream admin, not a reason to defer the portal step.

How to make the change

  1. Log in to the DMCC Member Portal
  2. Confirm your trade licence is active — the request will not process on a lapsed licence
  3. Submit the suffix update request
  4. Receive the amended licence and certificate of incorporation

No fee, no supporting documents, no notarisation. If your licence has lapsed, renew first — and if renewal is blocked because audited accounts are outstanding, that becomes the real task.

The part that actually takes time

The portal step takes minutes. Updating everywhere your legal name appears takes considerably longer, and it is where businesses lose weeks.

  • Bank accounts — notify your bank and update the mandate. Banks vary in how much they ask for; some treat it as a simple amendment, others request the amended licence and a board resolution.
  • Invoices and tax invoices — your VAT tax invoices must carry the correct legal name to remain compliant.
  • FTA records — update the legal name against your VAT and corporate tax registrations.
  • Contracts and agreements — existing contracts generally remain valid, but new ones should use the new name.
  • Customs registration, where you import.
  • Employment contracts, visas and the MOHRE file.
  • Insurance policies, leases and utilities.
  • Website, letterhead, stamps, email signatures.

What it means for your accounts and audit

Your financial statements should reflect the correct legal name for the period they cover. Where the change happens mid-year, discuss presentation with your auditor before the audit rather than during it — it is a straightforward disclosure point, but easier agreed in advance.

Keep the amended licence and certificate of incorporation with your statutory records. Auditors, banks and the FTA will all want to see the name change evidenced at some point.

It does not change your tax position

A suffix change is not a restructuring, so it does not affect your Qualifying Free Zone Person status, your qualifying income analysis, or your de minimis position.

What it does require is that your FTA records show the correct legal name. A mismatch between the name on your tax registration and the name on your invoices is exactly the kind of administrative inconsistency that creates friction during a review.

What happens if you do not do it

DMCC has set the deadline as mandatory. Beyond any direct consequence at the zone, an outdated legal name creates practical friction — invoices that do not match your licence, bank records that do not match your certificate, and contracts naming an entity whose registered name has changed.

Given the update is free and takes minutes, there is no scenario where deferring it is worth the administrative untidiness it creates.

What to do

Do the portal step now, then work through the notification list above. The change is trivial; the admin around it is what needs a plan.
